This "A Christmas Carol" resource is based on the play that is found in 7th grade McDougal-Littell Language of Literature books by Frederick Gaines (but another version can also be found online here).
In my class, we read the play scene by scene. We analyzed each scene with a discussion, plot diagram, some notes and then a compare/contrast graphic organizer as we compared and contrasted the play scene by scene with "The Muppets Christmas Carol".
The student can identify and use
✔️ plot structure to analyze a story
✔️ compare/contrast to look at similarities and differences between the text and multimedia presentation of the same story
✔️ inference skills to determine character traits and the theme

Supports Common Core Standards:
Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse media and formats, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words.
Analyze the structure of texts, including how specific sentences, paragraphs, and larger portions of the text (e.g., a section, chapter, scene, or stanza) relate to each other and the whole.
Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.
Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
